Day 2, and one of the \m/ HEAVIER \m/ days of this leg of the invasion. The sad reality of some Metal Festivals is that you have go make that executive decision of which bands you want to see, and as I say it before and often, if you have seen "X" band 20x times versus "Y" band 0x times, its best to go with "Y" band as seeing "X" band has already been on your previous agendas for some time and "Y" band probably has not played in your country (yet...).
The beauty of the PPM Fest is they have the 2 stage set up, which allows one band to go at a time, and with this configuration, you are not put in that executive decision making process. Than there's the dilemma of how the bands are spread out, and the majority of the bands on the first day, with respect to all of the bands that went through the process of coming over to this awesome festival, were not on my agenda to watch as I haven't had a chance to check out their material and while this festival would have provided that opportunity, there's the concept of the "burnout" (not the Scorpions song), meaning, you can only watch so many performances before you get tired and eventually need to lay against a wall/sit down/or sprawl yourself on any random floor and sleep/be inside your tent and sleep and before you know it, your itinerary is ruined. This is why the importance of resting during a festival cannot be underestimated, coz before you know it, that one band you came all the way from thousands of miles will be missed because you're sleeping off the first 5 bands you decided to mosh/crowd surf/headbang.
The first band in my itinerary was Seven Kingdoms, and coincidentally, they happen to be my neighbor to the north (Near Daytona Beach, Florida). Power Metal coming out of the Original Death Metal Capital? Welcome aboard my different subspecies brethren.
The Metalheads Stock Market in the war zone.
Jägermeister table mobbed by Metalheads? How "unexpected".
PPM €666 +13 420%...
The entrance to the commerce area.
The fact that nobody slept on the picnic tables is a shocker.
The entrance to all that is majestic. Hey, I had to go with a Power Metal slogan?
As the namesake of this festival suggests, they had a gaggle of Power and Progressive Metal Bands, but what about the 3rd name in its title, "Metal"? This is where Rotting Christ comes into the picture \m/
My first time catching Rotting Christ was on the Barge to Hell, and just like the first, the second time was equally as devastating. O6O6O6OPA6A6A6A!
One of the many lines for Meet and Greets.
It was feeding time, and because of the crappy pizza at Pizza Hut on Day 1, I decided to take my chances inside the mall I went in earlier. How do you deal with crappy pizza? Get superior pizza and eat it down. I saw Les Grands Prés and considering its "atmosphere", I took a chance and ordered one of their pizzas. Now, take note of the first picture and this will tell you why they had the superior product. They served their beer with cheese. This is a winning combination \m/
This pizza was significantly better than Pizza Hut's offering.
One of the newer bands introduced to me in recent times is Amaranthe, and were very professional with a consistent performance.
It seems my destiny of watching Pirate-themed Metal Bands for the first time at a Metal festival I have never attended before is fulfilled as Alestorm hits the stage. Best way to begin this photographic journey? Have the random guy who threw the horns right in the nick of me pressing the shoot button. Right place, right time personified.
Now its time for the fun part of todays post, Alestorm videos. First up is how Metalheads do "row, row, row your boat".
Surfing, minus the threat of sharks.
The wave of death (the wall of death, but with a maritime theme thanks to Alestorm).
If you have read this blog or (and especially) Channel 13 you know many beer bottles have fallen victim to my unsatiable thirst for beers (especially the Belgian variety). Here we have their champion meeting their worst nightmare. In case your wondering, I won.
It would only be appropriate to follow up my first time seeing Alestorm with my first time seeing Stratovarius.
Will the sun rise? Here's your answer.
Behemoth, a band I have seen countless times. As before, they deliver the goods the only way they can.
What makes this series of photos special? The number of pics I managed to get of Behemoth while the light is beaming down on them. Its the Karla Edition of the PPM Fest photos \m/
As said before and often, there are plenty of Metalheads passed out on the floor, but at the PPM Fest, they turn into zombies and instead of eating your flesh, they flash the horns at ya \m/
Best way to end this post, final shot of the audience from the aftermath.
